If I Never See Your Face Again

June 12, 2008

If I Never See Your Face Again (feat. Rihanna) by Maroon 5

With Goodbye, Goodbye already receiving airplay in Canada, many people started assuming (hoping even) that the band would release it as a single soon enough. But then, rumors began to rise on the search engines about Rihanna and Maroon 5 working together on a new single.

And so this single came around.

It won’t be unusual to compare this version to the original, and of course, I’m here to say the original is much better than this duet version with Rihanna. Although a few may argue the different atmosphere and style injected into this single by Rihanna is a different thing entirely and is not subjected for comparison, I object.

Listening to the introduction itself has shown me that the original is, without a doubt, loads better. The vocals Rihanna dishes out is fairly okay but I think if this duet was done at a slower and more moody pace and with Mary J. Blidge on the vocals, it might be somewhat better.

But that’s my personal opinion.

The electronics-like background music introduced in this single is nowhere close to catchy (to the original) although still bearable. On the final note, I would say this: unless you’re a looking for something casual to listen to, this isn’t a single you might wanna put on loop. You’re better off with the original.

For those who liked this single anyway, it will be available in the re-release of Rihanna’s Good Girl Gone Bad and Maroon 5’s It Won’t Be Soon Before Long albums due in some time. Other than that, you can download it on iTunes.

Ayo Technology

December 4, 2007

album single cover

Ayo Technology (feat. Justin Timberlake) by 50 Cent

For a song that had changed titles 3 times, had to be re-worked many times due to explicit, it certainly was worth all its changes. For this song delivers a new catchy vibe to the Rap genre and will definitely leave you wanting to hear more of it. Being the 4th single release from his studio album Curtis, this song has certainly rocked its core deep.

Though many would listen to it for only the feature of Justin Timberlake’s vocals (which was indeed one of the main reasons why the song became a hit), I would also recommend listening to it for its catchy background rhythm which seemingly is able to make you sort of addicted to it. The lyrics itself are pretty catchy and it’s very tempting not to actually rewind back on the chorus just to listen to Justin’s vocals.

This single indeed hit the Billboard Hot 100, climbing up to the 5th place, preceding Kanye West’s Stronger. If you’re looking for a new, fresh, addictive – Yet traditional theme as 50 Cent would only deliver, look no further.

Breakaway

November 25, 2007

album cover

Breakaway international album cover

Kelly Clarkson’s sophomore album had certainly been long awaited by her loyal fans whom she had gained after winning the American Idol (Season 1). With 1′451′000 copies sold in the first two years of her second studio album release, it is no wonder why she is one of the most successful pop artists out there. With her first single from this album, Breakaway already being debuted in the Disney movie: Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement, this was no doubt the reason of the album’s sky-soaring sales.Singles which followed: Since U Been Gone, Behind These Hazel Eyes, Because of You and Walk Away all followed the same success, being able to gain top positions in the US Billboard Hot 100 at one point or another.

This album offers the usual pop-music genre buzz about love. But make no mistake, this album is worth buying just for that. Kelly’s vocals are well-done in this album and no doubt, you will be extremely satisfied with it.

It has everything to offer: broken love, falling in love, a strained relationship, and yes – even hope. Melancholic and emotional tracks like Behind These Hazel Eyes, Gone, Hear Me and Addicted is worth for those who prefer their music that way.

For those trying to get over a broken relationship minus the emotional moments of tears, Walk Away and Since U Been Gone is a good way to dispel those hanging emotions.

And of course, there are tracks which still goes on about love. For that, seek refuge in You Found Me and Beautiful Disaster (Live) and trust me, you will not be disappointed. My only complaint is that the track Beautiful Disaster (Live) does not live up to it’s album/studio version in her previous album, Thankful.

Like many others, I find this album tuning about the normal love stories, but I believe what draws me to praise this album, is Kelly’s extremely good vocal and the way she tells the love songs in her own style which no doubt captivates me. This is a must-have whether you’re a fan of Kelly Clarkson or not!

And if you ask me own personal opinion, Where Is Your Heart is a definite “Worth 1000″ of this album. It’s just a pity it was never made into a single.

It Won’t Be Soon Before Long

October 17, 2007

album cover

Almost five years after their debut album, Songs About Jane, which raked in $2.7 million copies in 2004, Maroon 5 has finally came up with thier second album, It Won’t Be Soon Before Long.

It is no doubt that fans of Maroon 5 have indeed been waiting for this album for a very long time (me included). And of course, we were not left disappointed.

With the album’s first hit single Makes Me Wonder playing around in the radio airwaves weeks before the album was released, this had, without a doubt, contributed to its 429,484 copies being sold on the first week.

Anyway, the tunes provided to us were performed by no other than the lead-singer of the band, Adam Levine who has gained the reputation of the “Face of Maroon 5″. They dish out song after song with blasting energy which is – If I may well put, catchy to dance to.

Songs like Little of Your Time, If I Never See Your Face Again, Wake Up Call, Can’t Stop and of course, Makes Me Wonder will keep you dancing the weekend away. Or at least, tapping your feet to every beat you can tap your toes to.

For those who love the slow numbers, don’t feel left out, hits like Nothing Lasts Forever, Goodnight Goodnight and Back At Your Door will evoke those hidden emotions which we all hide deep in our broken and lonely hearts.

Arguably, many people may find this album very much similiar to Songs About Jane which offered the profanity of broken relationships, love which never worked out and the like. My only rebuke to that is that this album takes it a step further. A sequel to the previous album. The fact that it’s much more deep and heck, a bit more dark is what makes this album all-appealing. The word retro may also be found in this album’s descriptive vocabulary.

A definite must to add to your CD shelves!
